From 23. to 25. of June 2008 the International SPICE Days take place in Prague, Czech Republic. The SPICE Days are a conference where practitioners from a variety of companies meet and exchange experiences on efficient and objective-driven usage of SPICE. Our own experiences in applying SPICE to hardware engineering show that the standard has much more practical relevance than often assumed. Of course, we sponsor this major conference and we are present with our own exhibition booth. Come and visit our booth, have a chat and get your special present.
Process improvement is key in aligning engineering with business objectives. A lot of effort has been spent in improvement programs, but the results are not always tangible as a concrete economic benefit. As part of the International Conference on Software Engineering (ICSE) in Leipzig, Vector Consulting Services together with Siemens organized on May 13, 2008 an industry workshop on the topic of „Business impacts of process improvements (BIPI)“.
The effort to engineer electronical systems — and especially their underlying software components — is continuously increasing. To control the development cost of such systems, better utilizing engineering competencies, and enhancing product quality despite ever growing complexity, engineering processes are continuously improved. The quality and capability of such processes is checked by means of maturity models. But: How do such maturity models relate to creativity and the need to innovate? Do processes perhaps negatively impact creativity? The German ATZelektronik journal has asked different companies. Vector Consulting Services has provided a position statement.
